M7 Speed is excited to announce a long term technical alliance with The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Motorsports Program. The arrangement has M7 donating a Generation 1 R53 MINI Cooper vehicle, parts and technical support to the UNC Charlotte Motorsports Department.  The MINI will be converted by the students within the department into a track vehicle to compete in sanctioned Autocross and Time Attack events throughout the Southeast U.S.

Throughout the evolution of the program the students will design, develop and test many new suspension, aerodynamic and powertrain components that will enhance the overall performance of the vehicle.  This program will prepare the students for real world work and expose them to automotive performance engineering as it applies to both the motorsports and the performance aftermarket industries.

Professor John McAlpine is excited about moving the Motorsports program forward with a new project and a fresh set of goals for the students.  “Working with M7 and their engineering group will give our students a good sense of direction so they can stay on-task and in the end the program should benefit all parties involved”.
