Engine Performance

Engine tuning or performance enhancing a Mini Cooper is one of the easiest things to help improve the overall fun factor of the beloved Generation 1 Mini.

The Mini Cooper R50 or otherwise affectionately known as JAC (Just a Cooper) is the Generation 1 non-supercharged Mini Cooper. First introduced to the North American Market in 2002 it quickly built a cult-like loyal following because of its unique looks, awesome go cart like handling and a dare to be different attitude. The 1.6 liter non-supercharged engine lacks real performance horsepower but does just fine as an every day driver fun car. The engine responds well to easy DIY upgrades like a cold air intake, updated ignition systems and an ECU flash to help enhance the timing and fuel maps. The naturally aspirated engine will also love a 40-50HP shot of Nitrous Oxide for those brief full throttle events when you need to prove a point. To round out the package a straight through aftermarket exhaust system will add to the overall fun factor. The R52 Non-S Convertible available from 2005 through 2008 also fits into this group of ultra fun vehicles.

The R53 supercharged model is the real jewel in the Generation 1 Mini lineup. With the same great attributes of light weight, small size, go-cart handling combined with an Eaton supercharged version of the 1.6 liter engine...a pocket rocket was born!

The R53 (and R52S) has lots of performance and power adders available. Increasing the speed of the supercharger by replacing the factory pulleys with M7 Tuning overdrive pulleys, adding a drastically improved and proven inetrcooler systems like the M7 Tuning DFIC system, exchanging the small factory injectors for new technology fast response Bosch Fuel injectors, a M7 Cold Air Intake and aftermarket straight through exhaust combined with a dyno tuned ECU, one can easily make 225-250 HP reliability. Add ported cylinder heads, aftermarket cams and valve train, a nitrous oxide system and 300 HP is easily within reach on these early super cool Generation 1 Minis.

M7 Tuning has been modifying and manufacturing quality parts for all Modern Mini Coopers since they were first introduced in 2002. And since 2002 M7 has had one purpose only.... providing Ultimate Mini Cooper Performance Parts to the world.
