GEN 2 MINI (2007-2016)

The Generation 2 (Mark II) MINI was introduced in 2007.  To meet the increasing safety and marketplace demands the this new platform MINI grew larger and heavier than its Gen 1 predecessor. To help this combat these weight gains and keep the car a spirited performance drive the Gen 2 "S" models were fitted with a Turbo engine designated Prince. This was a lightweight all aluminum twin overhead cam four valve four cylinder engine designed and manufactured by French car maker PSA Peugeot Citron. The first version of this engine, the N14B, featured the BMW VVT (variable valve timing) system VANOS on the intake cam only, a K03 dual scroll turbocharger and Bosch direct cylinder fuel injection. Beginning in 2011 most "S" series models were shipped with the N18B engine which featured an updated cylinder head, duel VANOS cam timing and other emission, efficiency and engine control upgrades.

The Gen 2 was offered in five model variorions from 2007 through 2015. These models included the

  • R55 Clubman (2007-2015)
  • R56 Hatchback (2007-2013)
  • R56 Convertible (2009-2015)
  • R58 Coupe (2012-2015)
  • R59 Roadster (2012-2015)

A mid-production run body update started with model year 2011 and continued to the end of production in 2015. These are referred to as LCI models denoting the mid-production body facelift.
